Internet speeds are measured in Mbps. File sizes are measured in MB. The units look nearly identical but mean very different things - and confusing them causes endless frustration when your "fast" internet plan seems to produce slow downloads.
There are 8 bits in 1 byte. That single fact is the root of all the confusion between Mbps and MBps.
To convert from Mbps (network speed) to MBps (file transfer rate), divide by 8. To go the other direction, multiply by 8.
The conversion formula
Mbps ÷ 8 = MB/s (megabytes per second)
